The Green Mountain Book Festival will host its first annual weekend event September 23-25, 2022, with support from Phoenix Books and the Fletcher Free Library, featuring Ruth Ozeki and many other authors.

BURLINGTON, VT – May 9, 2022 – The Green Mountain Book Festival, a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to cultivate and promote the literary arts in Burlington and throughout the state of Vermont, announced that it will host its first annual book festival event September 23-25, 2022. The event will take place in downtown Burlington, centered on three days of programming in and around the Fletcher Free Library, Contois Auditorium, Park of City Hall and other Burlington locations.
This event is open to the public and celebrates the written word through a carefully curated series of presentations, inviting attendees to honor self-expression, embrace diverse voices, and encourage a deeper understanding of self and community through loving shared reading and books. One of the programming’s goals will be to celebrate and honor banned books, as part of September’s Banned Books Week.
The festival has confirmed that Ruth Ozeki, an award-winning American-Canadian novelist, filmmaker and Zen Buddhist priest, will headline the weekend’s events. Additional nationally and regionally acclaimed authors in non-fiction, fiction, poetry and other literary genres will be announced on a rolling basis in the coming months.
“I am thrilled to lead our group of dedicated volunteers in creating a literary community in Burlington with a brand new book festival,” said Kim MacQueen, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Green Mountain Book Festival.
“I can think of nothing more natural than for a bookstore like Phoenix Books to support a book festival in Burlington. The seven members of the board of directors have worked like crazy to move this project forward. Considering we already have a headliner and just received approval for our 501(c)3 status, I’m excited for what the future may hold for the Green Mountain Book Festival. Onwards and upwards!” said Mike DeSanto, owner of Phoenix Books and a member of the festival’s board of directors.
