‘La Borinqueña’ tackles climate change – The Nerds of Color

2016 Eisner Prize-winning graphic novelist and philanthropist Edgardo Miranda Rodriguez established La Borinquena to lead conversations around the social, economic and environmental crises affecting Puerto Rico. In direct response to Hurricane Maria, he created our La Borinqueña Scholarship Program which awarded $165,000 in grants to nonprofits across Puerto Rico.

Miranda-Rodriguez is now collaborating with NRDC to stretch out La Borinquena’s commitment to sustainability, environmental justice and philanthropy. Focusing on Puerto Rico’s reconstruction efforts after Hurricane Maria, Guest of La Borinqueña With: Rosario Dawsonot is a graphic novel that raises awareness of the dangers of climate change and shares an example of how a community is bouncing back with clean energy.

This original story written by Miranda Rodriguez and illustrated by Will Rosadocolored by Chris Sotomayorand features an original cover by Rita Fei and variant covers by Bill Sienkiewicz, ChrisCross, Leila Del Duca, Luciano Vecchio, Gustavo Vazquezand Raphael Albuqueque. Short stories also written by Miranda-Rodriguez feature the Nitainos, the new superhero team led by La Borinqueña illustrated by Steve Bucellato, David Fernandez, Francisco Javier Rodriguezand Elkys Nova Diaz are also included.
