Lamar celebrates Black History Month with billboards


To celebrate Black History Month, Lamar Advertising Company, an outdoor advertising producer, will use its nationwide network of digital billboards to recognize nine African Americans whose achievements and accomplishments have broken down barriers and changed the world. The “Heroes of History” who will be on the billboards through February are: Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander, lawyer and PhD. in economy; Margaret E. Bailey: Colonel of the Army Nurse Corps; Ruby Bridges, civil rights activist; George Washington Carver, botanist and inventor; Bessie Coleman, first civilian aviator; Rudolph Fisher, physician, radiologist, novelist, musician and orator; Bernard Anthony Harris Jr., NASA astronaut; Langston Hughes, poet, social activist, novelist, playwright; Toni Morrison: Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist.

“For Black History Month, we are proud to once again use our nationwide digital network to honor prominent African Americans and hopefully inspire people to discover their incredible accomplishments,” said Sean. Reilly, CEO of Lamar Advertising Company, in the release.

Lamar’s Black History Month campaign will be featured on hundreds of digital billboards across the United States. Additionally, Lamar offices will also recognize local African American leaders and heroes on digital billboards in their respective markets.

Founded in 1902, Lamar Advertising has over 351,000 views across the United States and Canada.
