Overwatch player discovers huge underwater map

Overwatch 2 is now in the middle of its first season. The team shooter weathered a tough start and is now settling into a good rhythm. Many players are heading to the highest tier of the battle pass.

New evidence points to an underwater map being added for Season 2.

Fans are also looking forward to the next season of Overwatch as a new character will be introduced. Blizzard is also adding a new map for Overwatch Season 2.

Details of the new map have yet to be released, but a player may have found it referenced in-game. These signs can be easily seen if you know where to look.

When you visit the train route signs in Midtown and Esperanca, there is a destination called “Atlantic Arcology”. The destination is not part of any previous Overwatch lore, and many curious players are wondering what it is. This was first reported by Twitter user @owgwadael and later shared on Reddit by user SonOfGarry.

Players assumed it was the new map for Team Shooter Season 2. Speculation is that this area will be underwater just off the coast of Portugal in the Azores region. The Azores are a group of nine volcanic islands and are a popular tourist destination.

The assumption is based on the travel time displayed on the Esperanca train route board. Midtown, which is on the other side of the Atlantic, has a journey time of around ten hours depending on the train route. Atlantic Arcology is only an hour and a half away.

The new map may be based on the Galapagos checkpoint map from Project Titan.

Players assume that this new map will be an underwater dome structure in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. There is mention of the old Galapagos checkpoint map back when Overwatch was called Project Titan. The Galapagos map is inside a domed structure and is underwater.

Players suspect Overwatch developers of reusing the Galapagos map that never made it into the final game. Or at least take inspiration from this map when building the Atlantic Arcology.

This however is pure speculation and should be taken with a grain of salt. What we do know for sure is that the new map will tie into the Tank Hero that will debut in Season 2.

Mauga is coming to Overwatch 2 as a new tank character.

According to the leaks, the new hero will be called Mauga. The character has been part of Overwatch lore for quite some time now, appearing in short stories and comics. Mauga is connected to support hero Baptise.

The new card can be King of the Hill. Art Director Dion Rogers mentioned that a KOTH-like map would be coming sooner and could be tied to Mauga.

We won’t know for sure what the new map is at this point as we’re still weeks away from Season 2. The new season will start on December 6, 2022, if the roadmap hasn’t changed.

Overwatch 2 is free on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Switch.
