The United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Health and Prevention reported 321 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus on Monday, along with 355 recoveries and no deaths.

The total number of active cases stands at 13,910.

The new cases were detected through 167,861 additional tests.

The total number of cases in the UAE as of May 23 is 905,151, while the total number of recoveries stands at 888,939. The death toll now stands at 2,302.

INSACOG has confirmed the presence of the BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron sub-variants of the coronavirus in India – one case in Tamil Nadu and another in Telangana.

BA.4 and BA.5 are sub-variants of the highly transmissible Omicron variant of the virus.

In a statement on Sunday, the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) said a 19-year-old woman from Tamil Nadu was found to be infected with the BA.4 subvariant of the virus.

The patient showed only mild clinical symptoms and was fully vaccinated. She had no travel history.

Previously, a South African national tested positive for Omicron sub-variant BA.4 upon arrival at Hyderabad airport.

Beijing extended orders for workers and students to stay at home and on Monday ordered additional mass testing as Covid-19 cases rose again in the Chinese capital.

Many of the city’s residential compounds have restricted indoor and outdoor movement, though conditions remain far less severe than in Shanghai, where millions of citizens have been confined to varying degrees for two months.

Beijing on Monday reported an increase in the number of cases to 99, from a previous daily average of around 50.
