UST’s UNITAS 100 lecture series addresses artists and authoritarianism in David Lloyd’s dramas


Professor Victor Merriman is professor of critical studies in theater and member of the international editorial board of UNITAS. Having published numerous articles and book chapters on postcolonial criticism, Irish theater, theater pedagogy and cultural policy, he is also a founding member of the One Hour Theater Company and the Liverpool Irish Literary Theater. His main speeches include the International Association for the Study of Ethical Literary Criticism (UST, Manila, 2019) and Korea’s Modern English Drama Association (Institute of Body and Culture, Konkuk University, Korea, 2020 – online). He was playwright on David Lloyd’s The Press (2009) and The pact (2021), on which he will focus his discussion. The respondent of the conference, Professor Emeritus Ricardo G. Abad, is a sociologist, theater director and faculty member of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the Department of Fine Arts at Ateneo de Manila University. After having been artistic director of Tanghalang Ateneo from 1984 to 2014, he is currently artistic director of Arete, the creative and innovation pole of ADMU, he was a member of the board of directors of the Asian Shakespeare Association and president of the Asia-Pacific Bond. theater schools.
