What is special about Jules’ Undersea Lodge?

The Jules’ Undersea Lodge in Key Largo is a one-of-a-kind underwater operation that invites guests to spend time ~ below sea level.

Jules’ Under Sea Lodge in Key Largo, Florida is one of the most unique accommodations in the world. This underwater “hotel” is located 21 feet underwater at Emerald Lagoon. The lagoon itself is a popular attraction for divers as it has rich marine life. The Lodge was named after the author, Jules Verne, who wrote 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Dive instructors and divemasters are on hand to provide an introductory course for those new to diving. There are only two bedrooms, both decorated with a kitsch and submarine theme that could be straight out of Steve Zissou’s submarine!

The only underwater hotel in the United States

Jules’ Undersea Lodge has been around for about 30 years. It opened in 1986 and has since fulfilled the fantasies of divers. The Lodge has two bedrooms and one bathroom and can accommodate up to 6 people. The Lodge is not a hotel in the “traditional” sense as guests have to dive to access their rooms. Instead, think of it as underwater accommodation with a research facility at Key Largo Underwater Park.

The Lodge has been on the lists of “unique hotels” for many years, and for good reason! Surprisingly, few people spoke about their stay. In the sections below, we’ll discuss the preparations and other important details so guests know what to expect during their stay.

You must prepare to stay at Jules’ Undersea Lodge. Before going to the room, clients are briefed on Lodge services and safety rules. While guests are staying, the Lodge will be monitored from headquarters for safety and security reasons. Don’t worry, this is not a privacy breach!

The hotel is completely submerged and requires guests to dive. Guests who are not certified divers can stay at the lodge, but they will need to follow the guidelines stipulated by the lodge operators.

The Lodge offers hot showers, DVD players, and Wi-Fi. Rooms are spacious enough for around 2-3 people but can feel quite cramped if at full capacity. Being at the Lodge almost feels like living in a submarine. Spend your time appreciating the marine life through the windows, stream your favorite shows or read a copy of Jules Verne’s masterpiece, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea! Jules’ Undersea Lodge has a full service kitchen which can provide meals and snacks.
