Visit the five-star Scottish Seabird Center, a leading conservation and education charity located in the beautiful coastal town of North Berwick, less than an hour’s drive from Edinburgh. To celebrate the launch of an incredible program of summer events, some of which are free, one lucky reader will win a family pass to their Discovery Experience and £ 50 to spend at their boutique or cafe.

Just down the coast of Edinburgh, on the edge of a beautiful peninsula with sea views, the Scottish Seabird Center is a fantastic day out for families and individuals fascinated by our natural marine world and keen to learn how we can help protect it for future generations.

The recently revamped five-star interactive discovery experience from the leading conservation and education charity allows visitors to explore the wonders of Scotland’s marine environment through a range of fun and engaging interactive exhibits. It also has live camera feeds to nearby islands where you can spot an impressive array of seasonal marine life, from puffins and northern gannets to seals and kittiwakes… and maybe even dolphins at times.

It’s the perfect place to relax and reconnect with friends and family while exploring the center together or having lunch in their cafe while admiring Bass Rock, where the world’s largest gannet colony nests for summer.

You can even go on one of the charity’s wildlife boat trips around the local islands.

If that wasn’t enough, this summer the Scottish Seabird Center is running a program of events, some of which are free (no entry to Discovery Center required). Events include coastal wildlife walks, citizen marine science activities, live science shows, as well as free sea-themed storytelling sessions and puppet shows. Book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.

Live camera feeds show the incredible diversity of wildlife on the islands

The Discovery Experience: This five-star tourist attraction brings the wonders of Scottish marine habitats and wildlife to life through a series of new interactive exhibits, games and live camera feeds on nearby islands. Admission from £ 7.20 per child. Family tickets available.

Climate Sale Live Science Shows (various dates July 1 to August 15 at 2 p.m.): Join Professor Egghead to find out how you can save a dime and the planet in this fun and interactive live science show. Laughter and learning guaranteed! These shows are free, but donations are welcome. Suitable for ages 7 and up.

Storytelling animations (July 22, 23, 29 and 30 at 11 a.m.): These free animations will transport you to the underwater worlds through a series of news on the marine theme. The events last an hour, but are designed as informal, casual events so you can stick around for a story or listen to them all. Suitable for ages 2 and up.

What is there for the snack? Puppet Show (July 3, 10, 17 & Aug 14 at 11 a.m.): Join Craig the Crab for this fun and interactive puppet show. While having fun singing, children will be invited to help Craig who accidentally ate marine debris. Some of his seaside friends will join him in helping him get rid of his resulting stomach ache. Tickets are free, but donations are welcome. Suitable for ages 3 and up.

Coastal Wildlife Walks (different dates and times until September 16): Take a relaxing 1.5 hour coastal wildlife walk with the association’s conservation officer to learn more about marine wildlife which can be observed in the area during the summer. This event is suitable for adults aged 16 and over. Tickets cost £ 7.50 per adult.

Beach Clean Fridays (every Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.): Borrow a beach cleaning kit from the Scottish Seabird Center and take an active role in improving marine habitats and protecting wildlife.

Marine Citizen Science (July 21): Join the Conservation Officer at the Scottish Seabird Center to learn about Scottish seabirds, shorebirds and cetaceans and learn more about how to identify and protect them. This event is free, with a recommended donation.

The Café: Recognized by VisitScotland’s, the Taste Our Best quality assurance program, relax and enjoy locally sourced food and drink at the Scottish Seabird Center Café, while gazing at the iconic Bass Rock.

Gift shop: Support the association by offering a selection of eco-responsible and sustainable products in the Centre’s gift shop. It offers everything from housewares, reusable bottles and travel coffee mugs to local soaps and hand creams, jewelry and nature, scenery, local history and children’s books. He even sells local gins, beers, chocolate, canned goods and cookies!

Wildlife Boat Tour: Hop aboard one of the Scottish Seabird Centre’s Firth of Forth boat tours to see different seabirds and marine life around the nearby islands. These trips are incredibly popular, so we recommend that you check availability in advance.

Lucas Ice Cream. A summer’s day isn’t complete until you’ve tasted delicious ice cream, and the Scottish Seabird Center Café sells the best: East Lothian’s luxury dairy ice cream, made by S Luca for over 100 years.
